Design Wall Monday, June 4th

I make quite a few small/baby quilts each year for the children/grandchildren in my neighborhood.  These small quilts give me the opportunity to try new patterns that I may not actually want to keep or have a use for.

I started this quilt at a retreat in early March.  I had all the blocks made.  Then I was invited to fill in at another retreat a few weekends ago.  I put these blocks together and added the small green border.  It has taken me until now to add the last yellow border.

This is quite a bright/loud quilt, I hope it won't keep baby awake.  The fabric is Studio E Retro Boho and I couldn't resist it at the quilt shop.

Can you place the pattern?  It is the sweet mellow Peaches and Dreams pattern that Judy offers for free at her Patchwork Times Website.  I wonder too if the leftover fabric would do just fine for her recent Sweet Treats pattern?

Design Wall May 28th, 2012

Thanks to all the Veteran's, active Military and their families for the freedoms we enjoy every day in the county.

I have been absent but lurking for quite some time.  No real reason.

I was lucky enough to be invited to fill in at a quilting retreat 2 weekends ago.  We went to Tonto Rim View Lodge in Christopher Creek, AZ from Thursday to Sunday.  We had lots of fun, great food, wonderful weather and lots and lots of sewing.  There were only 5 of us so we had extra space to spread out and plenty of design walls to use.  This is a new business and the hosts did a wonderful job making us feel welcome and special.

I made some changes to the border on this mystery quilt that I made with the Yahoo group Mystery Quilts 4 Military a few weeks ago.  I also pieced the backing.  This quilt will be going to Hospice of the Valley for one of their veteran patients.

I spent most of my time working on a quilt for our bed.  We have never had a quilt made specifically for us.  My DH and I each sleep with different amounts of covering so we have been using 2 mismatched lap quilts.  Since we did some remodeling and painting a few years ago, I have been motivated to have a nice quilt for us to share.

This is the lady of the lake block.  I was inspired by Bonnie Hunter's Lady of Lake Erie pattern in Quiltmaker Magazine.

I am using Moda's Rites of Spring a group of fabrics I think are from 2005/2006.  I have been looking for additional pieces and have had a little luck.  I'm still looking for more if you have any you'd like to sell.  I am about 1/3 of the way through the blocks.  Our bed used to be a water bed but we now have an air mattress in the wooden frame.  So even though it is a king sized mattress, the quilt will probably be queen size with no borders.

Corrrected stash report

Yikes and thanks to Nancy at Life Takes a Turn.  My math was pretty fuzzy today.

I went back through all my stash reports to double check.  I had earlier reported some awkward fractions of 1/6 and 2/3 yards.  Last report I decided to round them up or down or something and apparently that started my slide on the slipper slope.

So, the report in all accuracy should read.

Since I'm back on this post, I wanted to show you one of my latest sock finishes.  This is Paradise Blue Glimmer Hand Dyed from Grant Creek Yarns.  It looks like denim with silver threads.  The pattern is Simple Skyp, a free pattern from Adrienne Ku on Ravelry.  It is an easy pattern to use.  Thanks for telling us about it, Judy L.

Stash Report April 8th

I have only done a little sewing this week.  I am making wine totes for gifts.  I have finished one and 3 in various stages of completion.  I used this tutorial with some minor adjustments of my own.  I did not quilt the first one and I can see that was a mistake.  Quilting will give them more body.  I am counting all the fabric as they are all cut out and mostly finished.

Can you believe that a 1/4 of the year has already flown past?  Wow I have lots of catching up to do.

This is my SIL (on the right) with her first quilt.  She made it with help from our friend Donna while they were visiting each other.  Another convert!

I donated 7 1/2 yards of fabric for donation quilts.  These were novelty fabrics that I probably would not have used anytime soon.  Feels good to have them go somewhere they will be used and useful.

I have been absent from reporting for a while.  I am going to catch up tonight.  I was on a wonderful retreat and accomplished quite a bit but that part of the report will have to be for next week.

I did purchase border fabric, binding and backing fabric for the purple quilt I am working on and a lovely FQ because it was white and blue.

While on retreat, my friends gave me my birthday presents early.  We are trying this year to reduce the $$ involved in these presents.  One in particular gift was a great upcycle project.  My friend, Linda, used a denim jumper and part of a sheet that she found at Goodwill.  She got 2 aprons out of the jumper.  My present was from the front.  Iwill try to get a photo of the other apron which she added patchwork to for embellishment.

A camping we will go

I'm am getting ready for quilt camp this weekend.  Thursday can't get here soon enough.  I have several UFO's in mind to work on as well as a new quilt top for a baby gift.

My current leader and ender project only need 7 more 4 patches and then the blocks are ready to assemble.  This is a Can of Worms quilt from Debby Caffrey.  The UFO must be 6 or so years old.  It is currently on my design wall.  I don't think I will be adding any borders.  This is for my SIL, Pam.

The baby quilt will be using Judy L's pattern Peaches and Cream, however, it is not a monochrome quilt.  It will be interesting to see how it works up with multiple fabrics.

I have not done much sewing recently and my stash reports have become very boring.  I am hoping to change that by the time the retreat is over.
